Mumbai: In a big blow to the city Congress, senior Congress leader Haji Mudassar Patel joined the Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Tuesday.
Patel who was with the city Congress for over two decades and was close to many past and present senior leaders like Ahmed Patel, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Vilasrao Deshmukh, Prithviraj Chavan and Sushil Kumar Shinde, said that he was disgusted with the way the top party leadership treated junior leaders.
“I joined the Congress Party back in 1995 as a youth activist. But over the years, I have realized that the Congress only plays with the emotions of the minority community," he said.
"From 1999 to 2014, ,the Congress was in power but never gave reservation to the Muslims in Maharashtra. Now they are demanding it.The truth is, Congress has always played the minority card in the name of secularism, but on the ground, it hasn’t been serious about solving real issues faced by minorities,” he added.
Patel also alleged that opposition leader Rahul Gandhi and the coterie that he has created have no time for genuine party workers. "What is the point bring in an organisation when you are not accessible to my boss. This happened with Himanta Sarma Biswa, Ghulam Nabi Azad Ahmed Patel & many others congress Leader. Now I will put all my efforts behind NCP and strengthen the party in Mumbai and Maharashtra," he said.
Talking about his new inning with the NCP, Patel stated:
“Ajit Dada Pawar Praful Patel Sunil Tatkare Chagan Bujbal Mustaq Antulay Nawab Malik Hasan Mushrif
are assets & visionary leader of Maharashtra who believes in action. I truly trust his leadership. Under him, the minority community in the state will progress. He is genuinely concerned about our issues and problems, and that gives me confidence in the future.”
He added that Ajit Pawar's decision to join the NDA government in state & center has strengthened the resolve of prime minister Narendra Modi ji who has succeeded in taking the country to the new heights.said Patel....
