Malda Division Organizes Media Tour to Showcase Upgradation of Passenger Amenities at Malda Town, New Farakka,Jamalpur and Munger Station under the “Amrit Bharat Station Scheme

The Malda Division of Eastern Railway organized a media tour today to provide an update on the upgradation of passenger amenities at Malda Town Station as part of the “Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.” This initiative aims to enhance the overall travel experience for passengers and boost the station's infrastructure.

During the event, Divisional Engineer/Gati Shakti Unit, Shri Pankaj Kumar, briefed the media on the progress of the modernization efforts at Malda town Station. He shared updates on both completed and ongoing projects, emphasizing the improvements aimed at boosting passenger convenience and safety. The tour included a walkthrough of Malda Town Station, where various aspects of the upgradation work were showcased.


*Project Progress*

The redevelopment of Malda Town Station is being executed in two phases:

• *Phase 1:* With a sanctioned cost of approximately Rs. 35.2 crore, Phase 1 covers civil, electrical, and S&T works, along with the construction of a 12-meter FOB/Roof Plaza. Key elements include the development of the façade, circulating area, waiting halls and lounges, Divyangjan facilities, concourse area, central command office, and other ancillary buildings. The architectural design combines modern aesthetics with inspirations from local art and nearby historical monuments. Current progress for Phase 1 stands at about 75% physically and 65% financially, with key facilities like the 1st class waiting hall, reserved lounge, concourse area, and central command building in the finishing stages, expected to be completed by October 2024. The overall target completion date for this phase is December 2024.

• *Phase 2:* This phase focuses on developing a new arrival block, future expansion for commercial and office spaces, and a second entry with an additional circulating area. This phase aims to support future growth and further enhance passenger services.

*New Farakka Station:* The Assistant Engineer (AEN/New Farakka) emphasized the station’s ongoing transformation aimed at elevating passenger comfort and security. With a sanctioned cost of approximately Rs. 32 crore, the upgrades include the creation of separate blocks for arrivals and departures, high-quality interior finishes, and a 12-meter roof plaza. The development also features pedestrian pathways and sculptures to enhance the station's visual appeal. Advanced aesthetic façade lighting and large video walls are being installed to create an engaging atmosphere. The station’s design ensures full compliance with Divyangjan standards, making it accessible for differently-abled passengers.


*Jamalpur Station:* Jamalpur Station’s redevelopment focuses on accessibility and passenger convenience. The Assistant Engineer (AEN/Jamalpur) briefed the media on the progress of the modernization efforts at Jamalpur station, which include upgraded signage for easier navigation, enhanced waiting areas, and better sanitation facilities. The project also introduces a grand concourse area, a central command office, and a 12-meter roof plaza integrated with a commercial building. With a sanctioned cost of approximately Rs.34 crore, the upgrades aim to create separate zones for arrivals and departures, high-quality interiors, and a pedestrian-friendly environment with aesthetic sculptures. The station will also feature advanced lighting and large video walls, providing a visually enriching experience while ensuring it is fully accessible for differently-abled passengers.


*Munger Station:* The Assistant Engineer (AEN/Jamalpur) provided details on Munger Station’s modernization efforts, highlighting the focus on creating a comfortable and welcoming environment. With a sanctioned cost of approximately Rs. 20 crore, the project includes the construction of a new, striking façade, a grand portico, a spacious 12-meter roof plaza, and a large concourse area. The upgrades are designed to optimize passenger flow with separate arrival and departure blocks and high-quality interiors. Aesthetic façade lighting and large video displays are being installed to enhance the station’s atmosphere. Munger Station will be fully compliant with Divyangjan standards, ensuring accessibility and convenience for differently-abled passengers.
