Comprehensive Security Arrangements for Independence Day Celebrations

As India prepares to celebrate its 78th Independence Day, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) has put in place comprehensive security arrangements to ensure a safe and secure environment for passengers and railway property. In light of the prevailing security scenario, the RPF has intensified its efforts to prevent and respond to potential security threats. In Eastern Railway all the security personnel and field staff has been sensitised to keep themselves on high alert to prevent any disruptive activities.
The RPF of Eastern Railway has implemented a range of security measures before Independence Day, including:
- Enhanced deployment of RPF personnel at stations and railway premises to ensure high-visibility policing and rapid response to any security breaches
- Functional X-ray baggage scanners at sensitive locations to detect and prevent the carriage of prohibited items
- Random checking of packages and parcels to prevent the transportation of suspicious items
- Intensive CCTV monitoring to provide real-time surveillance and rapid response to any security incidents
- Anti-sabotage checks of empty rakes with sniffer dogs to detect and prevent the placement of explosive devices
- Regular interaction with railway employees and other stakeholders to gather intelligence and prevent security breaches
- Dissemination of security awareness among passengers and railway staff to promote vigilance and report suspicious activity.
In continuation with regular checks conducted at important and big railway stations like Howrah, Sealdah, Kolkata, Durgapur, Bhagalpur, Malda, and Asansol, special security checks have been conducted at other stations to ensure the seamless and safe journey of passengers. Anti-sabotage checks were conducted at various railway stations on August 13, 2024, at the following times:
- Katwa station: 10:30 hrs to 11:45 hrs
- Khagraghat station: 08:30 hrs to 09:30 hrs
- Azimganj station: 11:00 hrs to 11:30 hrs
- Rampurhat station: 12:00 hrs to 13:15 hrs
- Bandel station: 10:20 hrs to 11:20 hrs
- Barrackpore and Palta Railway Station: 10:00 hrs to 11:00 hrs
- Baruipur station of Sealdah South section and many more.
These measures are designed to prevent and respond to potential security threats, ensuring the safety and security of passengers, railway property, and national assets. The RPF is working in close coordination with state police and intelligence agencies to ensure a comprehensive and effective security arrangement.
Passengers are requested to cooperate with the RPF personnel and report any suspicious activity or item to the authorities immediately. With these comprehensive security arrangements in place, the RPF is committed to ensuring a safe and secure Independence Day celebration for all.
