Medical Department of Malda Division always
striving hard to provide super speciality standard medical facilities to its serving as well as retired employees. In such an endeavour, today the Divisional Railway Hospital (DRH)/Malda, accomplished a historic feat by successfully performing a complex wound debridement surgery with Split Thickness Skin Grafting—the first such procedure in the hospital’s history.
A male retired railway employee, aged about 61 years old, was admitted with a non-healing ulcer on his right leg. After a swift and thorough preoperative evaluation, the medical team embarked on this intricate surgical procedure, marking a new era in the realm of plastic surgery for DRH/Malda.
Under the guidence of Chief Medical Superintendent (CMS) Dr. Anupa Ghosh, the procedure was executed with precision by Dr. Sushovan Banerjee, Divisional Medical Officer (DMO), Orthopaedics, and anaesthetic care was expertly administered by Dr. Partha Pratim Bhattacharjee, DMO, Anaesthesiology. The surgery, which took approximately 24 minutes, involved the initial debridement of the ulcer, harvesting a split-thickness skin graft from the patient’s ipsilateral thigh, meshing the graft, and securing it to the wound site with a traditional skin stapler.
Despite the complexities of the surgery, the team’s unwavering dedication ensured the patient’s swift recovery, highlighting the excellence of Malda’s medical department. The patient is now on a path to full recovery and is expected to regain normalcy soon.
This milestone marks the beginning of a new era in plastic surgery at DRH/Malda and underscores the hospital’s commitment to remaining at the forefront of medical advancements.
