2.9 Million Units Solar Power Generated over Eastern Railway in April,2024*

Eastern Railway continues its steadfast commitment towards a sustainable environment by ramping up its utilization of solar power. In an ongoing effort to reduce carbon footprints, Eastern Railway has significantly bolstered its solar power infrastructure, leading to remarkable progress in environmental conservation.

As of April 30, 2024, Eastern Railway proudly boasts a cumulative installed capacity of 20.06 MWp across its various divisions. The recent surge in solar power installations during the first month of the current financial year (2024-25) saw an additional 505 KWp capacity integrated into the railway's energy ecosystem.

The impact of this expansion has been palpable, with April 2024 witnessing a notable increase in solar power generation. The total solar power generation over Eastern Railway during this period reached an impressive 2.9 million units, compared to 1.9 million units generated in the April of previous fiscal year. This surge in renewable energy production translates not only to reduced carbon emissions but also tangible monetary savings.

In April 2024 alone, the increased solar power generation facilitated a monetary saving of ₹ 7.75 crores for Eastern Railway. This substantial cost-saving measure underscores the economic viability of renewable energy adoption while aligning with broader sustainability goals.

Furthermore, Eastern Railway remains steadfast in its commitment to further bolster solar power infrastructure. Currently, efforts are underway to add an additional capacity of 4465 KWp of solar power generation in the near future. This forthcoming expansion reaffirms Eastern Railway's dedication to pioneering sustainable practices within the railway industry.
