Malda Division to Enhance Passenger Safety with Installation of Hot Axle Box Detectors
Reporter - Shahid Alam
In a significant step toward enhancing passenger safety and improving operational efficiency, Malda Division of Eastern Railway is set to install Hot Axle Box Detector (HABD) at Bhagalpur, Barahat, Godda, and Hansdiha railway stations. These advanced devices are designed to detect overheating of axles, commonly known as “hot axles,” in running trains, allowing for timely intervention by railway staff.
The continuous movement of train wheels can sometimes cause the ball bearings in axles to break, leading to an increase in axle temperature. If undetected, this condition could result in severe mechanical failures. The installation of Hot Axle Box Detectors will enable the early identification of such issues, preventing potential mishaps, reducing detention time for trains, and ensuring smoother operations.
Currently, one Hot Axle Box Detector (HABD) is operational at Bhagalpur station. Plans are underway to install two additional devices in the yards at Bhagalpur and Godda stations. Similarly, one HABD will be installed at both Hansdiha and Barahat stations, further enhancing safety and monitoring capabilities at these locations.
This installation is expected to be completed by December 2024, reinforcing the Division’s commitment to passenger safety and operational excellence. Once fully implemented, the monitoring of hot axles in running trains will become more efficient, reducing the risk of accidents and ensuring timely maintenance.
Malda Division continues to prioritize the safety and comfort of passengers, leveraging modern technology to improve railway services.
